Kindergarten Graduation Program

Each year our kindergarten team puts on a wonderful kindergarten graduation program.  Here are some of the things that we do:

We order caps and gowns for the students.  We collect money from the parents ahead of time and place the order.  Here is a link where you can order caps and gowns.
First we walk in to Pomp and Circumstance and find our seats.  The principal or our wing dean opens by saying a few words to welcome our families to graduation.  We then do the following:

Kindergarten Graduation Script:

All Kindergartners:

The class of 2016 (or whatever year it is)  wants to say,
You are all as welcome as the flowers in May.
We are glad to see you this afternoon (can be substituted with morning or evening)
We think it is just great
That you have come to _________________(name of your school)
To see our class graduate

Part 1:  (One student from each class)

We must all try to remember
Everything we have to do
So first we will stand and pledge allegiance
To our dear red, white, and blue
(all students then stand and say pledge)

Part 2:  (One student from each class)

We also have a student creed
You would like to hear that I know
So, everyone stand and yell it loud
All ready now....Let's go!
(All students stand and say your student creed if you have one-if not you can substitute with something else)

Part 3:  (One student from each class)

We are going to sing our songs
We surely like to sing
And after you hear it, you will say
__________________________(name of your school ) kids can do their thing!

We then sing 2 songs.  The first song we change each year.  It is usually a song that is popular at the time and that the kids know and like.  This year we are singing Happy.  The second song is called Kindergarten Kindergarten and is sung to the tune of the Married with Children theme song by Frank Sinatra:  Love and Marriage.  Here is an instrumental version:

Kindergarten Kindergarten

Kindergarten, kindergarten
Time to say goodbye to kindergarten
Look at the progress that we made
But now it's time to go to....first grade!

Kindergarten, kindergarten
We have learned so much in kindergarten
Our teachers wish that we could stay
but now it's time to go to....first grade!

Reading, writing, math and science
We love to do it
Specials and library too...
We're flying through it

Kindergarten, kindergarten
time to say goodbye to kindergarten
Look at the progress that we made
But now it's time, but now it's time
But now it's time to go to...first grade!

**(Instrumental interlude)**
(We have the students kind of bounce up and down during this-feet remain on ground)

Reading, writing, math and science
We love to do it
Specials and library too....
We're flying through it

Kindergarten, kindergarten
We have learned so much in kindergarten
Our teachers wish that we could stay
But now it's time, but now it's time
But now it's time to go to....first grade!

After the two songs I go up and read a poem that I wrote for our kindergarten graduation.  It is a wonderful poem and the parents love it.  I have the poem available on my TPT store:  My Kinder Garden.  If you are interested in using it you can get it here just click on the link or the picture: Kindergarten Graduation Poem

Next we have the presentation of diplomas.  We use just a rolled up piece of paper tied in ribbon to hand out at the ceremony and then give the real certificates out in the classroom after the ceremony.  Here are a few different designs that can be purchased. Just click on the pictures for more information.

After we present the diplomas we sing our last song...the grand finale!  First Grade, First Grade which is sung to the tune of New York, New York by Frank Sinatra  Here is an instrumental version:

First Grade, First Grade

Start spreading the news
We're leaving today
We want to be a part of....
First grade, first grade

We've worked very hard
Our teacher's so proud
So open up those doors to...
First grade, first grade

We know our alphabet and numbers too
We all can write our names....
And tie our shoes

So when summer's done
And we're all done with play
Our moms will send us to...
First grade, first grade

If we can make it there
We'll make it anywhere
So here we come
First grade, first grade

We know our alphabet and numbers too
We all can write our names...
And tie our shoes

So when summer's done
And we're all done with play
Our moms will send us to...
First grade, first grade

If we can make it there
We'll make it anywhere
So here we come
First grade, first grade

Some years we have a refreshment table at the end and some years we give the kids treat bags.  And that is how we conduct our kindergarten graduation.

Ten For Tuesday: End of the Year Books

Here are ten great books for the end of the school year!  Click on the titles or the pictures for more information.

1.

Last Day Blues (Mrs. Hartwells classroom adventures)

It's the last week of school, and Mrs. Hartwell's class is excited to leave for summer vacation. The only problem is that the kids don't want their teacher to miss them while they're gone. Once again Julie Danneberg and Judy Love bring to life the crazy antics of Mrs. Hartwell and her class and show that teachers and students are more alike than different.

2.

The Night Before Summer Vacation

A little girl and her family are getting ready to go on vacation . . . or at least they are trying to. In the effort to pack everything that will be needed, there's bound to be something overlooked, and what that is provides a funny ending to this meter-perfect "twist" on Clement Moore's classic.

3.

The Last Day of School

The shool year is coming to an end, and everyone at Albert E. Chapman Elementary School is counting down, including Mrs. Mallory's third grade class. In the last weeks of school there is much to be done, from putting away supplies to cleaning out desks to finding a summer home for the class pet, Rhoda.
Now -- finally -- the last day is here! Matthew Perez, one of Mrs. Mallory's students, has a perfect good-bye gift for his teacher, and he can't wait to give it to her. But when is the right time? Not in the morning when other kids are giving their gifts. Not during the Last Day fun of kickball and ice-cream treats. Will Matt get his chance before the school day is over?
The last Day of School will resonate with all children who know the excitement, energy, and bittersweet emotions that the final days of a school year bring.

4.

The Last Day of Kindergarten

Today is the last day of kindergarten. I wish it were the FIRST. Then I’d meet Mrs. Popinski all over again. A little girl is sad that kindergarten is coming to an end. She wishes it were the first day again, when everything was exciting and new and there was such a fun year ahead. But then she realizes that graduating is exciting, too, and maybe first grade won’t be so bad, after all! Bright mixed-media artwork is a perfect complement to the text.

5.

Lizzie and the Last Day of School

Lizzie loves school almost more than anything. First she loved Nursery school. She loved Kindergarten even more. When the time comes for Lizzie to start First Grade, she can't wait. Everyone tells her it will be a whole year of school. And Miss Giggliano, the first-grade teacher, tells her class to make this the best year of school ever. Yippee! thinks Lizzie--a whole year of school! And what a year it is. Miss G.'s class wins the Centipede Reading Award. And they even win the Nature Study Award for their bee and butterfly garden. It's a great year! But all great things must come to an end. When the last day of school arrives, Lizzie is dismayed. How can this be? It was supposed to be a whole year! But good news soon arrives and Lizzie, along with Miss G., finds herself in a different classroom and eager to learn!

6.

Last Day, Hooray!

Last Day, Hooray! Four, three, two, ONE! The last day of school is finally here. For Ivy and her friends it's time to take down pictures, clean shelves and say good-bye. But there is also time for one last surprise. In this companion to "First Day, Horray!," Nancy Poydar perfectly captures the excitement and fun of the final day of school and the beginning of summer vacation.

7.

Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten

Miss Bindergarten and her class have had a great year in kindergarten! They have gone on a field trip, marked the 100th day, created a circus, and even survived a wild day. But now the school year is over, and it?s time to remember, to celebrate, and for Miss Bindergarten to say, ?Good-bye, kindergarten. It?s been a special year.? The bestselling Miss Bindergarten series comes to a sweet and jubilant conclusion by honoring an important passage: the last day of kindergarten. Filled with last-day classroom ideas, it?s also a perfect gift to honor graduation and moving-up ceremonies. Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten is the perfect way for teachers and students to commemorate their own end-of-the-year festivities.

8.

When It's the Last Day Of School

James can barely contain his excitement on the last day of school, but he vows to be good and get Mrs. Bremwood’s last gold sticker of the year. He’s determined not to talk during Silent Reading and he will get his drink at the water fountain properly and not spit out any of it because it’s warm. At lunch, he’ll take the wrapper off his straw and not blow it at his friend Tony, and he won’t show Tiffany how he can burp and talk at the same time. It’ll be a perfect day and at the end, after giving Mrs. Bremwood the biggest hug ever, he’ll EXPLODE!
When it comes to excited kids, not many days can compete with the last day of school. And this is the perfect book to cap off every school year—for kids and teachers.

9.

The Berenstain Bears' Graduation Day

Celebrate graduation day with the Berenstain Bears! It's the end of the school year and Bear Country School is holding a graduation ceremony for all the students. This year, Brother and Sister will get to wear a cap and gown—and get a diploma. But what about Honey Bear? Will she be able to join in on the fun? Read along as the Berenstain Bears learn about the true meaning of the end of the school year.
The Berenstain Bears books have been loved by generations, and with well-known characters and beautiful illustrations, this 8x8 picture book is a perfect gift for young graduates.

10.

The Night Before Summer Camp

The first day of summer camp is almost here, and one little camper doesn’t know what to expect. For a while everything is hunkydory . . . until rest time rolls around and he gets a bad case of nervous butterflies. But an unlikely friend appears out of the crowd and reassures him that the best cure for the summertime blues is tons of summertime fun! A sweetly reassuring story, once again told in verse to the meter of Clement Moore’s classic.

The Ancient Greeks used it to restore the body while adding a lovely fragrance to their bathwater.  Lemongrass: There is something so consoling about entering a freshly cleaned space. Recipe 4:
This recipe has Bergamot:  Calming the mind can be an exhaustive exercise. We all have weeks where the days seem so blended and tangled together that unraveling our thoughts feels impossible. When life feels messy, Bergamot essential oil can help relieve scattered thoughts while promoting focus and clarity. It is often recommended to restore emotional balance and calm children on the verge of a tantrum or meltdown. Diffusing Bergamot with Lavender before bedtime can lead to sweet dreams and a restful wake.   Grapefruit:  There are some moments that you wish you could play on repeat. Letting your toes soak into the ocean, sipping coffee on a quiet morning, landing a job or getting on a plane to an exotic location. Grapefruit essential oil helps remind us of those life-giving and inspiring moments of our lives. Its unique properties uplift, revive and inspire a lovely emotional buoyancy. Grapefruit's aroma is sweet and zesty and can ease tension. Topically, it helps the skin restore a youthful glow through its abounding astringent properties. Through inhalation, Grapefruit can help curb the appetite and prevent overeating, leading to weight loss. During massages, Grapefruit stimulates the senses while beautifying the skin. Known for its mild euphoric properties, it settles emotions and restores balance.  Lime:  This essential oil has a crisp, refreshing citrus scent that has been used by aromatherapists for its uplifting and revitalizing properties. It can also act as an astringent on skin where it is reputed to help clear oily skin. * Consistency: Light * Note: Top * Strength of Aroma: Medium Strength * Blends well with: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Geranium, Grapefruit , Lavender, Lemon, Mandarin, Neroli, Nutmeg, Orange Sweet, Palmarosa, Petitgrain, Rose, Rosemary, Rosewood, Tangerine, Vetiver & Ylang-Ylang * Aromatic Scent: Lime has a crisp, sweet, fresh smell characteristic of citrus products. Ginger: Driving down a swirling road or sloshing up and down at sea is rarely fun for anyone. Mental fatigue and motion sickness don't stand a chance with Ginger in hand. It also aids in poor circulation, colds, achy muscles and migraines. Ginger is an exceptional addition to any massage oil. It boosts the immune system and has amazing warming qualities. Because it's aroma is so potent and powerful, Ginger should always be highly diluted when used on the skin. Many people use Ginger as a remedy for seasonal affective disorder. For thousands of years, Ginger has been a favorite domestic spice in the Eastern and Western Hemisphere. In China, fresh Ginger is used for rheumatism and bacterial dysentery. It has long been used as a digestive aid and to soothe the respiratory system. Sandalwood:  Using Sandalwood can help promote a healthy immune system and enhance mental clarity.
